THIS IS A BOOK REVIEW FOR "THE POWER OF REIKI, by TAMAYA HONERVOGT
I was a few years into my Reiki practice when a family member gave me "The Power of Reiki," by Tanmaya Honervogt, as a holiday gift. Comprised of low gloss colorful pages and filled with instructional images, The Power of Reiki is a perfect gentle introduction for someone thinking about learning Reiki, but it's also detailed enough to be used as a level 1 textbook for students. Reading through the book on a quiet afternoon, I found myself wishing I'd discovered it earlier in my practice, as it probably would have given me more confidence in the work I was doing.
There are aspects of the Reiki healing world that can be hard to discuss but Honervogt is gifted in all of her books at laying out Reiki in a seamless, easy to digest manner. She gives a basic introduction to chakras even though that knowledge is not essential to working with Reiki. She also spends a lot of time laying out common experiences people tend to have in life, and how to specifically work with Reiki hand positions for that healing.
Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of this book is at the very end, where she details a series of "Reiki Reports" from different practitioners who've had special experiences with Reiki. It's a great reminder that healing is personal, and has real results. I just learned that this book, after selling over 300,000 copies, was updated for another release. I haven't seen the new copy, although the cover art is different than my original. I've posted the old cover art here, as I have not read the newest edition.
If you're looking for a nice gentle Reiki book to give as a gift to a Reiki-curious individual, this is it. Then again, I've never met a Tanmaya Honervogt book I didn't like! Her other Reiki books, such as Inner Reiki, delve deeper into technique, and I'm happy to say they all happily belong on my Reiki Master bookshelf.
