The Magick of Reiki by Christopher Penczak

Updated: May 21, 2022

This is a book review for "The Magick of Reiki" by Christopher Penczak

One of my favorite Reiki books on my bookshelf is "The Magick of Reiki" by Christopher Penczak. Although this book was originally published by Llewellyn Publishing in 2005, I actually think is is on of the best Reiki books to read in 2021. Here's why: last year we had a global pandemic and the entire world is reeling from the social, economic, and spiritual impact. We have all experienced a collective shift in consciousness, and this is something that earth-based spirituality excels at supporting. Paired with Reiki energy healing, it's a potent way to support our birthing of a newer, more conscious and loving society. As we head into the last months of the year, that becomes even more important. (And don't get me started on 2022)

The Magick of Reiki is divided into 13 chapters that cover everything from a basic overview of Reiki, to the more magical and esotertic tie-ins that witches and new agers tend to love. Penczak covers how to do magick with Reiki, and how to incorporate light healing into ritual circles. It's so much fun!

The other huge highlight of the Magick of Reiki is its thick section on alternate symbols. Many Reiki practitioners find themselves channeling new symbols beyond the traditional set as their intuitive abilities develop. In this book, Penczak has gathered a wide sample of symbols and shared the stories behind their history, meaning, and use. It makes for entertaining reading no matter what level of Reiki you're at. The symbols themselves are also quite potent, and can be used in conjunction with your other light work.

A well known witch and teacher, Penczak has written over 20 books, and his casual, intimate style of writing makes it easy to understand what he's teaching and sharing. He's a well known, respected pagan writer and teacher for a reason.

For practitioners who like esoterica, plant medicine, and crystals, but still want a solid backing in Reiki, this book is sure to delight. It is worth the investment and makes many unique connections that you won't find in other books.

Let me know what YOU think, and happy reading!
