Equinox Message: Deep Threads of Spring
This past weekend I went out to the Russian River. Because of all of the rain and snow we've had, the river was high, and more full than I've seen it in a long time. The regular dirt paths had turned to silky thick mud, and the moody day was awash in shades of gray, brown, and murky green.
"This is spring," I thought.
When my son was four years old, I remember springtime in our Forestville home feeling like green grass, blossoming trees, and crisp blue skies. Every year is different, but as climate change continues to evolve, the seasons are feeling more dramatic.
"You want spring rain? We'll give you rain. And hail. And snow."
It's uncomfortable for me to think about the ways our human lifestyle continues to affect the planet, but Spring Equinox is actually THE time to think about these things.
Spring Equinox is one of only two times per year when the balance between daylight and night is equal. These sacred balance points remind us to check in with our values; are we living in balance with our hearts? Are we living in balance with the world around us?
Part of being human means that we are inextricably connected to this planet, and we forget that to our detriment. We're here to be caretakers of the land, and to remember that whatever we do on this planet and in this air, affects us all. This is old wisdom that all of our ancestors knew--and it's wisdom we've got to begin living with, once again.
As we celebrate springtime, consider going outside to the natural wild places where you live. Look at how they're changing, and sit on the land. Run Reiki or open to universal love. Ask from your heart what you specifically can do to support the earth right around you.
For years I did beach cleanups as an act of service. Then for a while I worked on reducing my use of plastics and processed foods. I'm not perfect at any of my efforts, but I keep opening to the work of finding balance with this sacred earth. I invite you stay inspired as an activist, and to do the same.
This Spring I feel the goddesses of love clamoring around all of us, asking us to enjoy the season and to remember the power of love in healing. The upcoming moons in Libra, Aries, and Scorpio, may open us to our sensual feeling nature, and this kind of juicy magical energy is perfect for replenishing exhausted hearts and minds.
So many people went inward with the pandemic. Many of us wore masks for years. But we forgot that the initial point wasn't to wear a mask and stop all transmissions of Covid, but rather to minimize the heavy impact on hospitals and soften the curve so that less people would die. We've softened the curve. It's time to take off the masks and remember that life IS scary sometimes, and death is always a possibility, but we are here to LIVE.
blessed Spring Equinox!
love and blessings,
