Are angels real? When I was little I believed in Angels. Despite the fact that our family was Buddhist, I drew endless streams of angels with my markers, crayons, and paints. Angels and winged hearts were among my first designs. They didn't look human. They were mostly light and wings, but I vaguely recall believing wholeheartedly that they were around.
ARE ANGELS REAL?
The passage of adulthood brought with it doubt. "Angels are make-believe," people would tell me. "Angels, fairies, dragons, unicorns, they do not exist." But in my heart I knew there was *something* regardless of what we chose to call these helping beings. Some people say that the bodhisattvas of Buddhism, the saints of Catholicism, and the deities of Pagan pantheons are all angels who work on behalf of Great Spirit. People seem to create their own explanations for what the angelic force is. As I navigated my twenties, releasing the inherited beliefs of family in order to identify my own personal truths (as most 20-somethings are wont to do), I began to understand that for me, there was no room to doubt angels.
I'd had far too many personal interventions; a time on a bus when, mired in depression, an old man sat down next to me and proceeded with words alone to restore my hope and faith in my own unknown destiny, before stepping off and completely disappearing from the road; another time when trapped by a snow storm we were rescued by a man whom I felt without a doubt to be an angel. I had many bizarre experiences while en route to some important place. In a way it is the perfect metaphor for angelic intervention. Our whole lives, we are en route, and sometimes we need a helping hand when we break down on the side of the road.
In 1998 I had a psychic awakening that resulted in my seeing otherworldly beings as clearly as humans. This, of course, brought other concerns. "Am I sane? Why I am seeing things that mainstream society deems nonexistent?" These were good questions for me at the time, and looking back I remember now that I'd asked for "proof." Suddenly in 1998 I saw that many of us are surrounded by guardians, watchers, and a myriad of other beings all of the time. In fear, I asked the visions to stop, and they did (at least in that form). But from that point forward I never again doubted that angels were real.
I think belief in the unseen is something we each must grapple with, ourselves. In Reiki we call upon life force energy and work with this intelligent energy to heal. I look at this healing process as coming back into a state of conscious wholeness; our return to the vibrational state of love, in which all of our tissues, bones, spirits, etc. are connected and fully functioning in line with our life purpose. There are now many kinds of Reiki, influenced by our own expanding conscious awareness of the universe around us. In Angelic Reiki, practitioners invite in the angels to work through them.
I feel that whether we call upon angels or not, and whether or not we even believe, they are always there. I see them in private sessions surrounding clients. The clients who believe, or who have even asked for the aid of the angels always have a stronger angelic presence. As a practitioner I can ask for guidance. As a healer, I can ask for my own healing.
So here is my question for you: Why not believe? Belief itself is powerful. Let the mind go in circles trying to figure out whether or not the angels are real, or energetic projections of our own will. (I think in your heart of hearts, you know they are there!) In the meantime, simply by asking for the wisdom, love, and support of Angels, you invite this powerful energetic force to lovingly transform on your behalf. Ask everyday, not just once!
The words don't need to be fancy. Just connect with the intention in your heart. It isn't about surrendering your own power or authority, it is about inviting the rest of the universe to co-create with you, and to remind you of your own unique power as an embodied human. We're on a very special adventure!
A Simple Angelic Prayer
"Blessed Angels (insert names here if desired), I call upon you to help me do the work before me. To open my heart to love, giving and receiving in perfect love and trust. This is the situation I am working on . . . and I am open to answers that serve the highest good of all. Blessed Be, and So It Is!"
Keep an eye out for angels! ;-)
