HOW TO CREATE A SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY. The biggest mistake people make on this epic day, is pinning all of their emotions and happiness on a partner (or lack of one). Celebrate Valentine's with a huge dose of Self-Care first and foremost, and then extend out to those you love. Here are some tips to help you plan a lovely Valentine's day this year!
🌺 Plan Ahead. If you want a meal at a restaurant, or activities at popular locations, you'll likely need reservations. Plan something simple and gratifying, and take steps now to ensure that the basics are handled. While I generally prefer home cooked meals, you can use online resources to book reservations at top restaurants, or if you live close to a large city you can try booking a cooking class at a local culinary school. Kitchenware stores like Sur La Table also offer cooking classes. Hiking, camping, zip lining, oceanic adventures, and museums, may all require reservations due to the popularity of this holiday.
🌺 Write yourself a letter. A LOVE letter. "Dear (Name), I just want to tell you...." Tell yourself everything you wish that others would tell you. Write the words you really need to hear. Put it in a Valentine's day card you either make or purchase. Go all out. Sign it with love. Open and read it out loud on Valentine's day. Keep it FOREVER.
🌺 Do something YOU love. Why wait for someone else to surprise you? Plan something fun for yourself straight away. If you have a significant other, coordinate plans around your fun personal event, but don't skip it. Doing these sweet things for yourself will make you all the more sweeter when you relate to others. You'll have more to talk about and share. Valentine's day may seem like a strange day to plan solo activities, but it's actually a huge energetic statement of your independence, and it will help create more balance in your love relationships, teaching you to give yourself time just as you give it to the people you love.
🌺 Surprise a loved one. Think of what a loved one really enjoys.... How can you work that into a Valentine's day treat or experience for them, whether you happen to be there or not? Don't leave out siblings, parents, co-workers, or friends as loved ones you might surprise! When I was in college, my aunt would send me lovely packages in the spring with Valentine's candy and gifts. It was such a delight, and I really felt her love. Surprising others not only gifts them, but it's heart-opening for you as well. It will help you to focus outside of yourself, spreading the love through your entire tribe.
🌺 Dress up in your finest. Admit it--when you're dressed like a million bucks, you feel great! Pull together your favorite outfit before the day hits. That way you can ensure it's clean!. Dress for both comfort and confidence. Wear whatever allows you to feel shiny and positive.
🌺 Flow healing Reiki energy. Sometimes Valentine's day can bring up sore emotions or old memories. If it's a potent day for you, give yourself a calming environment and snippets of quiet time to welcome the flow of Reiki, healing life force energy. As our good friend Obi Wan-Kenobi would say, "May the force be with you!" The healing force, that is. Know that in the years to come, this day and many others throughout the year can be filled with self care, surprises, love, and joy.
Blessings!
